Late May - October 25: resides in Yelabuga, spends much time working from nature. Produces lithographs for Sketches in Ink and Pencil from a Round-the-world Voyage (published in St. Petersburg in 1862), written by Alexei Vysheslav-tsev, the ship's doctor of the clipper Plastoon, during her circumnavigation of the globe in 1857 - 59. The Russian Art Album publishes three lithographs by Shishkin. His friend Vasily Perov, a genre painter of the realist school, gives Shishkin a pencil sketch of his picture Rural Religious Procession at Easter.
