April: exhibits his picture View in the Vicinity of Düsseldorf and four ink drawings at the World Fair in Paris. Summer: works from nature in the village of Bratsevo near Moscow, together with Lev Ramenev; paints the landscape Midday in the Neighbourhood of Moscow. Bratsevo. Takes part in an exhibition held by the Moscow Society of Art Lovers. Wins first prize in a competition organized by the Society for the Encouragement of Artists in St. Petersburg. Paints the picture A View in Switzerland for the Razan art collector A. Likha-chov. End of the year: meets and soon begins to teach the sixteen-year-old Fiodor Vasilyev, later a notable Russian landscape painter.
