February: his works, several pen drawings, receive favourable mention in the press for the first time in an article entitled "The Art Exhibition of the Moscow School of Painting and Sculpture" and published in the newspaper Moskovskiye Vedomosti (Moscow News). Spring: takes part in the Academy of Arts exhibition. April 18: receives a small gold medal for his picture View of Valaam Island (The Valaam Gorge). Summer: works on Valaam. November: begins preparing an album of lithographs, among them Tangled Thicket (View of Valaam Island), Moonlit Night, On the Shore of Lake Ladoga.
