Arrives in Moscow at the beginning of the year, acquaints himself first-hand with works by the landscape painters Aivazovsky and Lagorio. August: enrolls at the Moscow School of Painting and Sculpture where he studies (until January 1856) under Academician Apollon Mokritsky.
